Matthew 1:20-21
20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” This message of the angel to Joseph is one that rings throughout the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus Christ. That message is one that removes fear and brings peace. Multiple times in the Gospel’s historic record of the birth of Christ you hear the words, “fear not” and “peace”. This is the message that Jesus came to bring mankind from the very beginning is one of peace and one that destroys all our fears. In Isaiah 9:6 one of the names given unto the Messiah was in fact “Prince of Peace”. The message is that living of this world for sin and self will always bring destruction, anxiety, fear, and turmoil. But when we rest in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord He removes all fear and gives abundant life forever more. He was born in a manger to die on a cross that we might live without fear and with the power of His resurrection inside of us.
