From the Pastor's Desk

We are in the “summer slump” that’s a term that I heard from a lot of pastor’s this past week at the state camp meeting. It means that attendance, money, and participation are all down at the church where they pastor because of summer.
There are two times of the year where church participation begins to fall off for about a month or so. It’s the summer solstice, and the winter solstice. Or in other words around vacation season and the Christmas season.
I completely understand that people need to take off for vacations and that Christmas time is very busy. The thing that concerns me about it though is that there is never a time to vacate from being a worshipper and a servant of Jesus Christ.
I had a random thought, (as I often do) about questioning how many people were lost into eternity or were not reached at their most desperate time of need simply because of the summer slump, and the Christmas season that churches tend to go through.
I’m not saying to abandon vacation time because it is healthy for you and your family, nor am I suggesting that you forget about Christmas. I’m simply saying don’t forget about Christ and the ministry of His name in these seasons.
As for myself I have committed to God to do everything I can to explore new ways to reach folks during these seasons. As a pastor that means to try new things, to branch out in different areas, look for an approach that no one has done yet because of the simple fact that, IT’S ALL ABOUT REACHING SOULS FOR JESUS CHRIST!
I needed to say that because the last thing that many want to hear about is more change. But we must realize that time is running out and we don’t have time to waste on doing things that no longer are working or producing fruit.
As your pastor I ask you to stand with me and fight against the tool of Satan called,
“The Summer Slump”.
