In both services this morning we will be welcoming new members into our fellowship. For anyone to become a member of the Newport Church of God they must go through a membership class so they will know the vision and operating procedures of the church. If they agree with these the next step is to make the covenant public before the congregation. One thing I always stress when teaching a membership class is the term “Kingdom Mentality” and I use it because when one becomes a member of a church that I pastor I want them to know that the “Kingdom Mentality” is how I try to operate.
Kingdom Mentality is very simple, it means to operate and live in a way that always puts the Kingdom of God first. That means before ones pride, feelings, and preference, family and friend connections. When we do this we begin to live in Matthew 6:33, which is living under an open heaven. Kingdom mentality is important because its kills the spirit of pride, greed and selfishness that all believers battle with in one way or another. Kingdom mentality can’t operate when traditionalism, religion, and ownership prevail in a church. It brings in complete freedom to pursue the vision in any given church. So we must all ask ourselves this question, “what am I willing to give up for the Kingdom?”
