“You cannot lead anyone else farther than you have been able to go yourself”
(Robert Townsend) This statement by Robert Townsend is so true not just for the secular but more so for the spiritual. A great example for this is in our worship. I am very particular about who leads worship in the churches that I pastor. For in order to lead worship you must first be a worshipper and if you are not a proven worshipper then one has no business trying to lead others to a place that they have never been. The Apostle Paul instructed young Timothy to keep himself free from the bondage and sin that he was trying deliver others from. The reason being is that a person that has experienced freedom from bondage to set others at liberty. Just like it took a spotless lamb, a Savior that was free from all sin to set men free from their sin. This is why Jesus had to leave the throne room of heaven to come and live in the flesh of man sinless for 33 years in order to set us free. My point being is that a church and people who are not on fire for God can’t lead others into the light while they themselves walk in darkness. Come into the light as He is in the light and others will follow.
