History:
On July 19, 1939, the church was organized in Irish Cut, known as Cherry Hill Church of God with Rev. I. H Brabson, the District Overseer under Leadership and Covering of the Church of God International in Cleveland Tennessee.
The Church begin with 19 members which consisted of six new members and 13 transfers from the Carson Springs Church of God. The Pastor was Rev. Robert Sifford with Lydia Blazer being appointed as the Clerk and Treasurer.
On October 3, 1943, the church moved in to a new facility in Newport on the corner of Park and White Oak Street. The name was changed to the Newport Church of God with C. M. Morgan, Pastor . The church remained there until 1956, which at the time land was purchased on Old Knoxville Highway.
Pastor Kermit Phillips moved the church into another new building. In 1970, the original church building on Old Knoxville Highway was torn down and the present facilities were constructed under the supervision of Rev. R. Douglas Jacobs, Pastor.
