This is Memorial Day weekend, for most churches and pastors that means low numbers in church attendance and finances for that Sunday service.
The Memorial Day holiday was instituted after the Civil War to honor all who had given their lives in the name of freedom and country. It was designated to be the last Monday in May of every year. On this day the American flag will fly at half mass and there will be special services at the grave sites of veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and country. Memorial Day was instituted to be a day of remembrance, a day to recall and reflect on the price that has been paid by so many brave men and women that we may enjoy the privilege of freedom and democracy. The problem facing our nation today, the greatest threat to our country isn’t the attacks of terrorism from without but the failure of having freedom without moral value. For freedom without moral value will cause a nation to decay from within. We are one Nation under God and when we forsake the principles of absolute truth given in God’s Word we begin to decay in the very marrow of our being as a nation. Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.
