This Sunday we are 22 days after Easter, or 22 days removed from Passover. The next great feast of Israel to be celebrated is the Day of Pentecost. Passover and Pentecost are 2 of the most celebrated feast of Israel that the Christian church recognize and celebrate. We don’t necessarily celebrate them as the Jewish nation does, but they are still the most recognized by the modern church. The reason is two of the greatest acts of God toward mankind took place on these two feast days. The Passover of course being resurrection morning when Jesus rose from the grave which we call Easter, and Pentecost being the day the God sent Holy Spirit to fill and empower all who are saved.
The time span between the two feasts is exactly 50 days. 40 days of which Jesus appeared to the disciples encouraging them and giving them instruction for what was to come, the last 10 days were spent in an upper room praying and waiting for the promise of Holy Spirit. It was during this time that the disciples went from discouragement and defeat to hope and rejoicing, then on to being filled with power to change the world. The point being as Christians we should not measure our lives from valley to valley or defeat to defeat. But on the contrary mountain to mountain, glory to glory, victory to victory. So stop looking for the next hurt, battle, or failure. But look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith and then you will always be focused on the victory you have in Him.
