Luke 11:1
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” In this passage of scripture the disciples witnessed one of the greatest examples that Jesus left His church and that being the importunity, and vitality of prayer. They saw Jesus pray many times and witnessed first-hand what was the power behind the ministry of Jesus, that being His relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer. They were so astounded they ask Jesus to teach them to pray. This is when Jesus gave them a model of prayer that is referred to as “The Lord’s Prayer”. But it actually isn’t the Lord’s Prayer but a pattern for prayer that was given to us. It starts with worship, proceeds to seeking obedience and walking in the Father’s will, gives a request for divine provision. We then are told how to give and receive forgiveness, and it ends with a request for guidance and protection. A lot of things in our lives and churches are needed but not essential. The greatest of all these, and the most essential are prayer and worship. Matthew 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
