As many of you well know today is the day where as a nation we change the time schedule that we operate by. It’s labeled “Daylight Savings Time” and it is designed to take advantage of the extension of daylight as the summer solstice draws near.
As a well-seasoned pastor I have come to the point of expecting a fall in church attendance when the time changes in the spring and the fall. The reason is most people struggle with change and it takes some longer than it does others to adapt to it. As I was thinking about it this week something occurred to me, my attitude was bad on these days because my expectation was bad. When you change your expectation, your attitude will change with it. A man walked into a fortune teller’s tent and paid his money to have his palm read. As the lady read his palm she said that the man would be poor and unhappy until the age of forty-five. The man then asked what will happen when I’m forty-five? The lady responded, “You will get used to it”. When you begin to expect great things it will come out in your attitude. Just like when you come to Sunday worship service expecting God to bless it will come out in your worship. “Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall receive it” Benjamin Franklin
