As all are well aware today is the first Sunday morning worship service for the year of 2019. Usually this is a time when many make resolutions to change something in their life for the better. Truth be known though, many of those New Year resolutions rarely make it out of January before they are broken or amended to a much easier change.
This is also the time of year where I as Lead Pastor at the Newport Church of God as well as all the pastoral staff cast our vision for the New Year, as well as reflect on the past year with all its successes and failures. You would be surprised how many pastors and churches never openly cast a vision in their churches. All many of them do is just exist. Yet they wonder why their church never moves more than 10 attendee’s in either direction. The Bible is very clear on the fact that without a vision the people along with the church will die according to Proverbs 29:18. Many try to blame the lack of vision or the failure of the enemy working through some devious way to undermine the vision and stop it. But the thing about vision is that no one or nothing can steal it or cause it to die. A vision can only be given up or given up on ever coming to pass. Therefore let us hold to the God given vision for the Newport Church of God in 2019, let’s run with it and labor to see it come to pass. Habakkuk 2:2-3 2 “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
