Probably the most celebrated holiday of the year is Christmas. We see pictures and images, plays and movies about the birth of Jesus Christ in the manger. We try to imagine what that holy night must have been like for those who experienced it first-hand. One of the most visited sites in all of Israel is in Bethlehem at the ruins of an ancient stable where it is believed that Jesus was born. There is actually a place of worship there named “The Church of the Nativity”. But people often miss the true message of the birth of the Son of God. You see the fact is He was born in a manger, to be raised on a Cross. Nowhere in scripture are we instructed to, or is it even implied that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. But we are compelled, commanded, and commissioned to preach, teach, and celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus.
I’m not against Christmas as a holiday, and I have learned to appreciate the fact that this one time every year the world recognizes Jesus Christ. But we must never forget while we look upon nativity scenes, watch Christmas plays, and listen to the songs of the holiday this one eternal truth. Jesus was born in a manger of a virgin to be raised on a cross, to be buried in a borrowed tomb, and to rise again on the third day. In order to bring resurrection power to everyone who believes and receives Him as Lord. I as your Pastor and all of my family wish you MERRY CHRISTMAS and that the blessings our God be upon you and your families this holiday season.
