I was reminded of a quote of President George Bush this week in which he stated, “Use power to help people. For we are given power not to advance our own purposes, nor to make a great show in the world, nor a name. There is but one just use of power and it is to serve people”.
In Acts 1:8 our Lord Jesus Christ gives us this promise. “You shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth”. Just as the quote from President Bush, in the same motivation the power that we as the church are endued with from on high is to minister to everyone we come in contact with and unto the farthest reaches of the earth. We do this locally with the boldness to witness that comes with the power of Holy Ghost to all we come in contact with, and we are to do it globally with the time and money that we as a church and as an individual give to world missions and missionaries. This takes the Gospel to places we may never go, clothe people we will never meet, and feeds those we will never sit with.
