Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have already arrived; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. This is one of my favorite statements of the Apostle Paul because it gives a picture of the focus of his heart. For Paul makes the statement clearly that he knows his own imperfections and that he has not arrived to the state of being perfected. For in the previous scriptures he proclaims that he stands only in the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ. But the great lesson given here is that you can’t live in yesterday’s defeats or victories, for in order to move forward you must press daily toward Christ. If you hold to past victories you are in the danger of thinking you have arrived, and if you cling to past defeats you will never be able to move beyond them. The one thing that Paul expressed that is most important to do is let go of yesterday and pursue Christ today.
