Nehemiah 8:10
Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” All Israel was gathered at the Water Gate of the city when Ezra the priest had spoke these words to them. Ezra told the people of Israel this because the scribes had just finished reading the Book of the Law to the people and everyone began to weep and be sorrowful at the reading. He was telling them it was a sacred day that God’s Word had returned to the people not for judgment but for joy. God’s Word is to be a source of rejoicing and faith in our lives not of depression and grief. Even if the word cuts and convicts it is still a source of joy. For when the Word of God exposes weakness or fault in our lives, it also directs us to the cross of Christ. For the same sin the Word exposes, the Living Word Jesus Christ forgives and cleanses. The fuel that feeds your joy is the Word of God. You can rejoice that the Word says you are forgiven, loved, bought with a price, and have eternal life in Christ Jesus. The joy of the Lord comes by the revelation of the Lord.
