Today is, as I am sure everyone is aware, the beginning of Daylight savings time. Of course the spring of every year we move our clocks ahead one hour to conserve more working daylight time.
As a pastor over the years I have learned that it doesn’t matter if the time moves forward or backward one hour it is still going to affect the Sunday morning worship attendance. This being for the simple fact that most people struggle with change. In Exodus 17:6 God commands Moses to strike the rock in Horeb and water would come forth to replenish the thirst of a complaining nation of Israel. Moses did as he was commanded and water came forth just as God had said it would. Then when you move forward about 39 years they are in need of water again, and complaining again in Numbers 20:8. Except this time God tells Moses to speak to the rock instead of striking it. Moses being frustrated by the complaining of the people instead of speaking to the rock he smote it with his rod again. This would be a critical error in the life of Moses. For because he failed to change and do things the way God said instead of the way he had done it before he ended up dying in the wilderness. He got to see the promised land but did not get to cross over. The point is that if we fail to change with the direction that God is moving or leading us, that we too will end up dying in the wilderness, or like those this morning that failed to change their alarms caught sleeping and miss the blessings of God.
